The Faculty of Humanities at Dickson College aims to enrich young people and to provide them with the skills and knowledge to be fully-rounded individuals who can participate fully in society.
Humanities units are engaging and stimulating, and are designed to help students analyse, reflect, and communicate. Some Drama and Media units can be combined with English units to form an English major.
Units are offered at the Accredited and Tertiary levels for English, ESL, History and Global Relations, and at Beginning, Intermediate, Continuing, Advanced, and ETTL levels for Languages. Units offered in Humanities at Dickson College in 2007 include:

GLOBAL RELATIONS (T) and (A)
This course is for students who have an interest in humanities, politics, philosophy, journalism, diplomacy, cultural studies, science, legal studies, economics and the arts. It provides students with a sound background and general knowledge to contribute to local, national and global challenges.
Students will be introduced to important questions concerning their own lives, cultures, the world, their responsibilites as citizens and their ability to effect positive change. Units include: The big picture (Year 11 introductory unit); Australia in the world; International relations; Global challenges.

Language units are offered at Beginning, Continuing and Advanced levels.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) (T) and (A)
ESL can be studied at both Tertiary and Accredited levels. Tertiary ESL scores can be used to achieve university entrance and students learn the skills required for successful study at college and university. Accredited ESL is focussed on general language practice and contributes points towards an ACT Year 12 Certificate. Students who have recently arrived in Australia can study up to 16 hours a week in ESL classes.
The college also offers a Business Basics course for ESL students at Tertiary or Accredited level.
For students whose language needs are greater, the college offers a Bridging Intensive English Program (BIEP) that students can study in conjunction with other mainstream classes.
Tutorials are available for students who are having difficulty with the language or concepts of other college subjects. Tutorial attendance can earn points towards an ACT Year 12 Certificate.
