Dickson College has combined with three other local colleges to provide an improved service to people in the community who take part in its recreational evening program. Lake Ginninderra, Hawker and Dickson Colleges now operate as the Northside Community Colleges, offering a range of special interest courses that usually run for eight weeks.
Residents on the north side of Canberra receive a full list of courses and an enrolment form via a two-page liftout in the Chronicle. The coordinators of the various programs are happy to provide students with information about the college programs. While most people complete courses at their local campus, others are happy to travel to another college if their choice is only offered there.
The program is advertised four times a year, during the school holidays, and enrolment normally takes place on the first Monday night of each term. Prospective students can enrol in person during the day, on enrolment night or by phone, fax , email or snail mail. Details of how to do this are included in the Chronicle liftouts. Residents who do not receive the Chronicle should contact the College to obtain a copy of the program.
Courses are offered in languages, arts and crafts, food, business, personal development, music and dancing. Most courses run in the early evening on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
Many of the popular courses run every term and there are continuing classes for students keen to build on their skills. Different courses are introduced each term and the College responds to community suggestions for new courses.
Contact number for enquiries about the program is 6205-6424 or email night.school@dicksonc.act.edu.au.
