North Canberra schools cluster and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community partnership

 

The North Canberra cluster of school communities is committed to developing strong partnerships underpinned by the belief that:

 

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are unique and vital.
  • The promotion, recognition and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, cultures and achievements contribute positively to school communities.
  • All students have the capacity to achieve high outcomes in all aspects of their life.

As a community we will:

  • Value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. 
  • Develop mutual respect, acknowledgment and a welcoming and inclusive school environment.
  • Build quality relationships with students. Staff will know their students, their interests and aspirations.
  • Improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.     

  • Provide support for learning, social support and quality teaching that meets students’ needs and goals.

Abstudy - Information from Centrelink. If you are an Indigenous secondary or tertiary student or a full-time Australian Apprentice, ABSTUDY may help you stay at school or go on to further studies. It consists of a fortnightly living allowance as well as additional components to help with the costs associated with attending school.

Jabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre (ANU) - Supports indigenous students at the Australian National University; advice & expertise in indigenous areas; help with uni entry via the Indigenous Australians Admission Scheme.

 

Ngunnawal Indigenous Higher Education Centre (UC) - Supports indigenous students at the University of Canberra; free tutoring with Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS); Foundation Program - pathways to tertiary study for those with no Year 12.  

 

Yurauna Centre (CIT) - Supports indigenous students at Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT). Find out about services, events, scholarships, careers advice, academic support, counselling.
