Comedy and Satire
The Dickson College English faculty had the pleasure of inviting The Canberra Times political cartoonist David Pope (The 2010 Political Cartoonist of the Year), to present a talk to the Comedy and Satire class. David’s presentation was highly regarded by all students who found his humorous talk on the nature of political satire, cartooning and the newspaper industry to be eye opening. Students relished the opportunity to access the mind of one of Australia’s premier satirists in order to find out how political cartoons work and why they can be both brutal and funny. We were also privy to some of David’s more ‘edgy’ private collection. Towards the end of the seminar, David assisted students in formulating ideas and concepts for their major assessment pieces - his input was invaluable and much appreciated. Much fun was had by all!
