Café Skills (R unit)
Café Skills provides students with the opportunity to earn a point while developing skills to work in a Café or Restaurant. Students will learn to make espresso coffee using a commercial machine, they will also develop important hygiene practices and build confidence to serve customers.
This unit offers student the chance to gain a Statement of Attainment (nationally recognised) for the units of competency: SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee and SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety.
If students continue for two semesters, they will gain an additional point and can achieve further units of competency: SITHFAB024 Prepare and serve non-alcoholic beverages and SITXWHS005 Participate in safe work practices.
This unit also involves running DC Café – the school café, once per week at lunch in the school canteen. This is based on a rotating roster, giving students the opportunity to gain important service experience.
